About the position

The System Operations team works within the Global Performance and Operations organization along with the company's top developers to deploy and support 200,000+ servers across the globe. System Operations ensures that Akamai's platform remains reliable and maintainable in a fast paced, evolving environment. The System Operations team manages Akamai's production environment and shares responsibility for keeping it fast, secure and reliable. This role requires in-depth knowledge of proprietary services in addition to a big picture understanding of the entire infrastructure. The Systems Operations Engineer directly supports the core infrastructure services at Akamai.

Responsibilities

Managing, enforcing, and implementing processes that provide internal users access to core infrastructure
Working through detail-oriented procedures to handle change requests to Akamai's deployed network
Collaborating with our global System Operations team to maintain consistent workflows across the group
Serving as an escalation point for internal users on a broad range of issues
Being subject matter and implementation expertise
Promoting operational best practices to maintain the integrity of the Akamai network

Requirements

Sufficient Linux knowledge or experience
2 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, another related field or its equivalent
Experience in troubleshooting complex issues
Understanding of modern Internet protocols
Communication skills to foster rapport with all colleagues
Experience with scripting languages like Perl, Python, Shell
Some experience with operations or large networks
