Virtual Teacher– SUMMER TEACHING OPPORTUNITY
PROGRAM SUMMARY:
The Southwest Idaho Area Health Education Center (SW ID AHEC) inspires, connects, and supports individuals at every stage of the healthcare workforce pipeline by providing hands-on career exploration for youth, structured support for health professions students, and continuing professional development for practicing providers. Through partnerships with education, healthcare, and community organizations, SW ID AHEC delivers employer-informed, evidence-based programming aligned with Idaho’s healthcare workforce needs and access-to-care goals.
POSITION SUMMARY:
SW ID AHEC invites applications for an instructional role supporting youth engagement in mental health career pathways. The instructor will deliver a 5-week virtual course introducing 11th and 12th grade high school students to foundational concepts in mental health, including common disorders, contributing factors, treatment approaches, current research, and diverse professional roles within the behavioral health field. The synchronous course runs June 15 – July 22, 2026, from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, M-F. Training/onboarding and wrap up meetings will be required prior to, and following, the course. Travel to McCall, Idaho is required on June 15 and July 22, 2026. Authorized travel expenses will be reimbursed.
This short-term, high-impact opportunity is designed for a mental health professional/educator with a passion for workforce development, student empowerment, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health. This is a grant-funded, fixed-term, seasonal opportunity. The teaching curriculum, materials, training, and technical support are provided by SW ID AHEC. This is a non-clinical, education-focused role with no caseload, billing, or diagnostic responsibilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparation
- Review curriculum materials, objectives, and instructional guidelines.
- Plan lesson pacing and engagement strategies for virtual high school learners.
- Prepare and navigate all course content, platforms, and technology in advance.
- Coordinate lesson plans with the Teacher’s Aide regularly.
Course Delivery
- Deliver engaging instruction introducing 11th–12th grade students to mental health disorders, treatments, and careers.
- Adapt curriculum to Idaho community contexts while maintaining learning standards.
- Use evidence-based teaching strategies and interactive learning methods.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
- Follow student privacy, safety, and trauma-informed, culturally responsive policies.
- Ensure that the day’s lessons are staying on time and on track.
- Record any additions or edits made to the daily lessons and track them (tracking tool to be provided) for reporting.
Assessment
- Conduct provided pre- and post-assessments to measure learning gains.
- Evaluate comprehension through scenarios, discussions, and activities.
- Use brief reflections, polls, or exit tickets to check understanding.
- Monitor participation and engagement.
- Document and report outcomes as required.
Evaluation & Reporting
- Encourage and facilitate student completion of program evaluation surveys
- Provide a brief course summary
- Contribute to SW ID AHEC reporting and program evaluation efforts.
Estimated Hourly Breakdown of Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- 92 hours of virtual instruction
- 8 hours of in-person instruction
- Remaining 100 hours:
- ~60 hours of preparation and assessment
- ~15 hours of training (synchronous and asynchronous) and meetings with SW ID AHEC staff and/or partners
- ~10 hours of travel time
- ~10 hours of evaluation and reporting input
Travel
- Authorized travel expenses, including mileage, hotel, meals and incidentals will be reimbursed at the Federal rates and according to Jannus’ travel policy and procedures
- June 15, 2026—in person orientation in McCall, Idaho
- July 22, 2026—in person capstone presentations in McCall, Idaho
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Genuine interest and support of Jannus’ mission, vision, and values. Integrating these concepts into daily activities to create healthy workplace environments.
- Must be an Idaho Resident
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social Work
- 2 years of employment experience in a clinical setting since licensure is required
- Experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating youth or young adult learning
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfort with virtual platforms
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Licensed or credentialed mental health professional
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work from home office
- Must have reliable internet service
- Laptop will be issued for use while employed
