Natividad is accepting applications for Staff Nurse I - New Grad in various units. This is the entry level in the professional Staff Nurse series. Incumbents are generally recent graduates of nursing schools. Under the supervision of the Supervising/Charge Nurse, this incumbent performs professional nursing duties in the care and service of patients and their families; provides direct and indirect patient care in the inpatient care setting. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility in a professional and timely manner. Communicates with physician or charge nurse about changes in patient status, and results of abnormal diagnostic tests. The Staff Nurse I - New Grad is expected to work at the full scope of their licensure providing clinical care with a decreasing amount of supervision.
Candidates must be available to start working on Monday, April 6, 2026.
The following departments will be hiring for Staff Nurse I - New Grads:
- For new grad nurses interested in careers in the Mental Health Unit
- 10-week program with both didactic and simulation learning modalities concurrent with clinical hours
Under close supervision, incumbents perform routine patient care assignments and receive comprehensive in-service training. They are expected to promote to the journey level of Staff Nurse II after acquiring the appropriate experience and demonstrating satisfactory performance. This position is distinguished from the next higher level of Staff Nurse II in that the latter is expected to perform the full range of nursing duties with minimal supervision and only periodic in-service training.
Examples of Duties
- Provides overall patient care appropriate to the nursing care plan
- Manages the stable patients under the direct supervision of Charge/Supervising RN
- Provides teaching and support with patient and Family
- Notifies supervising RN and Health Care provider of negative change in patient status in a timely manner
- Demonstrates understandings of the pharmacokinetics and safe administration of common medications used for the treatment of patients in their assigned area
- Demonstrates the ability to safely administer routine Medications by PO, IM SQ and rectal routes
- Provides care for families (adult, adolescent, newborns) with considerations for their developmental levels
- Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards
- Properly prepare, hang, monitor and discontinue IV fluids and blood/blood components
- Acts as a patient advocate
- Develops a written plan of care
- Assists physician with patients
- Monitors intake and output for patients
- Completes accurate documentation of patient care
- Provides ongoing assessment of the patient status changes
- Communicates to the supervising RN the need to change a course of nursing actions based upon change in the patient's condition
- Demonstrates ability to follow chain of command, as situation demands and delegates appropriately to the nursing assistant (NA) or medical unit clerk (MUC)
- Evaluates patient response to pain interventions including pharmacological and non- pharmacological
- Demonstrates proper use of equipment for unit assigned
Examples of Experience/Education/Training
REQUIRED License/Certificates: Possession of a valid California RN License (Please ensure to list your RN license number on the application) and a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Additional Information
- Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.

- Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid Driver License for the class vehicle driven or have the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
