Software Engineer Applied AI/ML Intern

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Apply engineering principles and AI techniques to solve complex problems through creative engineering.
  • Work with stakeholders to determine user requirements for features.
  • Apply Microsoft’s responsible AI practices to ensure systems meet customer commitments.
  • Learn and adopt new engineering methods, AI, and machine learning techniques.
  • Seek feedback and apply best practices to improve technical solutions.
  • Manage time effectively and complete software projects in a cooperative team environment.
  • Review current developments and proactively seek knowledge to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance at scale.

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Enrollment in a full-time bachelor's or master’s program in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field during the academic term immediately before the internship.
  • At least one semester/term remaining after the internship.
  • One year of programming experience in an object-oriented language.
  • Ability to submit an official or unofficial academic transcript if selected for interviews.
  • Preferred: Understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and AI/machine learning concepts.
  • Preferred: Experience with AI/ML projects such as developing machine learning models, working with large datasets, or implementing AI solutions.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AI frameworks and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
  • Preferred: Experience using AI tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude code, Microsoft Roo Code, with understanding of their strengths and limitations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay range: USD $5610.00 - $11010.00 per month (varies by location).
  • Higher pay range for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area: USD $7270.00 - $12030.00 per month.
