Building Maintenance Mechanic II - Housing

About the position

The purpose of this position is to oversee the upkeep of the City’s Housing managed facilities, buildings and machinery. This is primarily accomplished by making repairs, obtaining materials and parts, and pricing equipment to be used for maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs specialized machinery, and/or HVAC equipment, electrical equipment, and plumbing equipment.
  • Inspects and installs parts and/or materials on electrical fixtures and/or machinery.
  • Meets and oversees contractors for general maintenance of the City’s Housing managed facilities.
  • Prepares occupied and vacant units for occupancy by performing basic repairs and maintenance.
  • Inventories and orders materials and parts.
  • Maintains reports and daily logs of work progress.
  • Maintain preventive work orders.
  • Reports for after-hours call backs on a rotating schedule.
  • May perform the duties of Maintenance Supervisor in their absence.
  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Requirements

  • Carpentry principles and practices
  • Plumbing principles and practices
  • Electrical principles and practices
  • Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
  • Standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, twisting.
  • Ability to exert 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.

Nice-to-haves

  • North Carolina Limited Electrical License preferred.
